At 11:30 a.m. this morning, AAA Kansas reported 119 calls since 6 a.m. this morning. AAA has answered 26 calls in Topeka, 31 in Wichita and 16 in the Lawrence area. Response times have been normal (less than 30 minutes in most cases) in Topeka, Wichita and Lawrence, a little bit longer in rural areas.
It’s been a quieter morning than was expected. From AAA vantage point, motorists have heeded the warnings and stayed off the roads. About half of all the calls have required towing, but interestingly another 25 percent have required winch-out service for motorists stuck on ice in parked situations to get their vehicles going.
AAA expect increasing volumes of calls through the afternoon and will provide another update around 3:30 pm this afternoon.
AAA wants to emphasize the importance again of warning motorists to stay off the roads unless you absolutely have to.
