PELHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a student struck and killed by a pickup truck outside Birmingham was part of a group of Montgomery high school students on field trip to northern Alabama.
Pelham police are investigating the accident, which also injured another student.
The two pedestrians were struck by the truck around 6:06 p.m. Tuesday in a busy commercial area in the city south of Birmingham. Montgomery Public Schools spokesman Tom Salter said the two students were struck as they ran across the road.
Salter says their bus was on its way back from taking Robert E. Lee High School students on a field trip to Huntsville when it stopped in Pelham.
Salter tells The Montgomery Advertiser (http://on.mgmadv.com/1cUjwFM) that the injured student has been released from the hospital.
