Car fire spreads in North Topeka home

Firefighters were sent to 5124 NW Kendall Dr. Saturday afternoon on the report of a garage fire. When they arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the garage which is attached to the home. Battalion Chief Chris Dibbern tells Kansas First News it started as a car fire. The resident tried putting the fire out himself before it spread.

The fire was detained to the garage, the living area above the garage and the attic. Both residents were able to escape unharmed. One firefighter received a minor injury from an exploding tire. He was treated at the scene.

The Topeka Fire Department helped put out the fire.

Two adults who live at the home are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
