Sales tax vote coming for new movie theater in Hiawatha

Hiawatha theater

The Hiawatha city  commission held a special meeting Monday night and  voted to put a “half cent” sales tax to fund a new movie theater on the April ballot.

The new theater is estimated to cost nearly one point seven millions dollars and will have three screens with digital capabilities.

The owner of Arrow Theater  in downtown  Hiawatha says the doors will be closing in the near future due to the cost converting to a digital projection system.
