WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A 57-year-old former Kansas doctor has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for drug and firearms convictions.
Lawrence M. Simons, a former doctor with a Haysville medical clinic, was convicted last year of being a felon in possession of a firearm after giving a bail bondsman a pistol as partial payment in an unrelated domestic dispute. He was also convicted of unlawfully possessing controlled substances.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a release that Simons was sentenced Monday to about four years on the firearms charge and two years for violating supervised release.
Simons also pleaded guilty in 2009 to unlawfully distributing controlled substances. He was sentenced in January 2010 to two years in federal prison followed by three years on supervised release on those charges.
