Student arrested in connection to school computer outages

Junction City Police say a 16-year-old student is responsible for school district’s computer problems.

Police say since February 13th, Unified School District 475 had noticed problems with its network where it has unexplained network outages caused by an unknown source.

An investigation into the outages by IT Specialists and District Staff identified a student within the District that was suspected of being responsible for the network issues.

Tuesday around 3:00pm, the student was arrested.

He was taken into custody has been arrested on charges involving 10 counts of Unlawful Acts Concerning Computers. He is expected to be held at the North Central Kansas Juvenile Detention Facility until his first appearance in Geary County District Court.

The student’s name has not been released.
