An attorney for deputies in Shawnee County says not giving pay raises will have a negative impact on the Sheriff’s Office.
Commissioners voted 2 to 1 to approve a one year, uni-lateral contract that contains no pay raise.
Bob Archer and Shelley Buhler voted in favor of the contract, while Kevin Cook cast a dissenting vote. The contract involves deputies with the rank of sergeant and below.
This decision comes after the County and FOP reached in impasse earlier this year.
A fact finder was brought in to try and resolve the situation. The Attorney representing the deputies say low pay is a concern.
Bob Archer called a study put out by deputies comparing Shawnee County salaries with pay for deputies in other counties phony, saying the cost of buying a home in Topeka is much less than other cities.
