For more than 30 years the American Business Women’s Association career chapter in Topeka has recognized many successful women.
This year the association is recognizing the honorable Christel Marquardt as a woman of distinction.
Kansas First News Reporter Vanessa Martinas tells us why.
She’s earned the award is because of all of the accomplishments she made after she received her doctor of law.
Marquardt was the first woman president of the Kansas Bar Association.
She continues to serve on its Board of Governors.
She says the ABWA’s award of distinction will hold special place in her heart.
“This one is especially important to me because I was a member of the ABWA years ago,” she said.
Vice President of ABWA’s Career Chapter Diana Ramirez says the reason Marquardt is receiving the award is because of her impressive resume.
“It’s just so completely impressive all that she’s accomplished while being a mother, while attending washburn university and then becoming judge,” Ramirez said.
Marquardt says receiving the award has made her reminisce on old times.
“It also put in contact with a number of people i haven’t heard from for a long time, so it’s been a really fine experience,” she said.
Marquardt is also being named one of the Top 10 Business Women of the year for the national ABWA.
The ABWA will be presenting Marquardt with her award at the 32nd annual scholarship luncheon.
The luncheon will be at the Sunflower Ballroom in the Manner Conference Center from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
