Explosive housing growth in Manhattan region

POTTAWATOMIE CO, Kan. (KSNT) – The average sale price of homes in Pottawatomie County has skyrocketed more than 139% since 1998. Last year’s average sale price of a house was $192,640.00. In 1998 it was about $80,500.00.

Pottawatomie County appraiser Lois Schlegel says the 2014 county valuation has increased by a little more than $100 million over 2013. That’s in large part because of 48 million dollars in new construction. Schlegel says the majority of the county’s expansion is in the southern part along highway 24. Most of the population in Pottawatomie County live and work in Wamego, Manhattan or Fort Riley.

The housing market is very active around the Manhattan area according to Schlegel.
