Students at the University of Kansas have rejected a fee to pay certain expenses for some sports.
The KU student senate voted to eliminate a 25 dollar student activity fee to the KU Athletic Department.
The school uses the money to pay for travel for women’s and other sports that don’t make money… which, at KU, is everything except men’s basketball.
Representatives from the athletics department says the money is crucial to make sure the school is following federal title ix regulations, but some student leaders say they shouldn’t have to foot the bill so the university can obey the law.
Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little will now have to decide whether to uphold the students’ vote or veto their proposal.
