Shaving heads to fight cancer

Some people are shaving their heads to fight childhood cancer.

The St. Balrick’s Foundation will be in Emporia on Saturday to host one of its signature head-shaving events to bring attention to the disease and support kids with cancer.

Friday night, the organization held a dinner and live and silent auctions at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone to get together and have a good time to celebrate the St. Balrick’s Foundation for the work that they do for pediatric cancer research all the while to raise money to directly fund that research,” event coordinator Travis Hitt said.

On Saturday, volunteers will ride a float in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Emporia.

The head-shaving event is right after at J-Mo’s Place at 518 Commercial Street.
