NEW YORK (AP) — A New Jersey teenager who police say bypassed security and climbed a ladder to the spire of 1 World Trade Center in the middle of the night faces trespassing charges.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Joe Pentangelo says 16-year-old Justin Casquejo was arrested early Sunday at the nation’s tallest building.

Casquejo’s lawyer hasn’t returned messages seeking comment. Nobody was home Thursday at his Weehawken apartment.

Pentangelo says Casquejo got into the construction site of the nearly completed tower through a small fence opening. He says the teen was able to slip past an “inattentive” security guard on the 104th floor. The guard’s been fired.

A friend described Casquejo as a thrill-seeking adventurer.
