Douglas County OKs temporary plant permit

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Douglas County officials have approved a temporary permit for a concrete batch plant that some area residents had opposed.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports (http://bit.ly/1fnRHmS ) the Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved the temporary permit Wednesday.

Residents have raised concerns that dust from the plant would cause health issues and property damage.

The commission then stipulated that the applicant, Emery Sapp & Sons, had to come up with a dust control plan to meet the approval of the public works director. That plan, which the public works director approved, includes storing 12,000 gallons of water on site.

The board’s approval is also contingent on an air quality test conducted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
