Florida man receives scholarship for helping rescue three children

(WESH) One of the men in that heroic ocean rescue is honored.

Stacy Robinson was enjoying Daytona Beach when he noticed a van headed into the ocean.

On Tuesday, the 21-year-old accepted a one thousand dollar scholarship from his school, Seminole State College.

Last month Robinson was enjoying Daytona Beach with his girlfriend when suddenly a mother drove her car into the ocean.

With three children stuck inside, Robinson sprinted into the water.

He quickly grabbed two of them, one in each arm and carried them out of the Atlantic Ocean

“I get chills every time I watch it. It’s unexplainable.  And at times I can’t believe it’s me in the video,” said Robinson.

“You want to help students who are in turn helping others and Stacy is a prime example of how our students help other people so it was just a natural response,” said Seminole State College President Dr. E. Ann McGee.
