FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — Jurors in New Jersey have ended their first day of deliberations without a verdict in the case of a man charged with killing his 2-year-old daughter by tossing her into a creek while she was still strapped in her car seat.

On Wednesday, jurors in the case of Arthur Morgan III viewed a video statement in which he tells police he kissed the toddler before tossing her car seat, which was weighed down by a tire jack.

Prosecutors in Monmouth County say Morgan killed Tierra Morgan-Glover in a jealous rage in 2011 after the child’s mother broke off their engagement.

Defense lawyer Jeffrey Coghlan says Morgan believed Tierra’s mother’s family wasn’t raising her properly.

Morgan could face life in prison if convicted of “knowing and purposeful” murder.
