TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Downtown Revitalization Project is getting a boost in funding.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and Downtown Topeka Inc. announced the donation of 200 thousand dollars over a three year period.
Monday at a ceremony at the Top of the Tower, the first check of $66, 666 was presented and in the next two years there will be two more checks.
Leaders hope to tell the history of the Topeka community in the reconstructing of Kansas Avenue with pocket parks.
Steve Briman, president of the Downtown Topeka Foundation said the Railroad donation signified a “milestone” in fundraising efforts for the project, which has now raised just under 2.4 million dollars in private sector contributions, exceeding its initial challenge from the city to raise 1.8 million dollars.
