Traffic was backed up in west Topeka Wednesday morning due to a motor vehicle accident.
Topeka Police officers were called to the I-70 and Wanamaker area just after 7:30 a.m. on a report of an accident. Traffic was backed up in the area and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
The area was cleared just before 9 a.m.
According to a witness at the scene who spoke with a Topeka Police officer, a semi-tractor trailer was headed east on I-70 near the I-70/I-470 interchange when the semi appeared to suddenly slow down for some reason. That action caused an older model pickup to brake and hit the rear of an SUV.
Police say the semi driver continued without stopping. Earlier reports of a pedestrian being involved proved to be wrong.
There are no injuries reported. Eastbound traffic was backed up to Auburn Road and to 21st Street on I-470.
