The “Kansas Children’s Discovery Center” installed a new sustainable rain garden system.
The system will reduce the amount of pollution in the garden’s flower beds by improving the water quality. The beds will be naturally watered through an underground system.
The Center’s Director of Operations says the “Explore and Discovery Gardens” will help teach kids about what happens above and below ground.
“They need to know about the world around them, all of us do, not just just children the adults as well,” says Carolyn Chinn Lewis, director of operations. “Our children are our future leaders and the more they’re exposed to this at an early age it bodes well for the world, for the future.”
The system will harvest and store rainfall for irrigation of the garden during drier periods of the year.
