Miss Kansas to be featured speaker at anti-bullying workshop

Sgt. Theresa Vail, a member of the Kansas National Guard and the reigning Miss Kansas, will be a featured speaker at the Bullying and Safe Social Networking Professional Development workshop April 15. The event, sponsored by the Kansas National Guard’s Child and Youth Program, will be at the Heartland Preparedness Center, Room 302, 2808 N. New York Street, Wichita.

The event is free. It is targeted at school counselors, teachers, administrators, and all others who work with children and youth.  Registration opens at 8:15 a.m.; a light breakfast will be provided. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided at noon. Vail will be speaking from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Vail said she was a victim of bullying as a youth and uses her platform as Miss Kansas to advocate against bullying, empower women and encourage confidence. Vail will speak from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Other speakers include Dr. Sameer Hinduja, Professor and Co-Director of the Cyberbullying Research Center, “Cyberbullying and Safe Networking,” and Dr. Elaine Johannes, Kansas Operation Military Kids, and Michelle Jones, Youth Coordinator.
