The Topeka City Council approved a new property maintenance code enforcement ordinance effective July 1, 2014.
The Council and Topekans expressed many concerns about the new code.
They worry about a section that allows code enforcement officers to enter homes but officials from the City’s neighborhood relations say this is a huge step forward.
“It is for the better and this is basically the foundation block and we’re going to build from this with good training, good policy, good procedure and then from there were going to start looking at different things,” says Darin Scott, neighborhood relations.
Homeowners can attend open sessions to ask questions between now and July 1st.
