The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year old Topeka man Saturday morning in connection with the abuse of a 7-month old child.
Deputies took the Koylen McKinney into custody following a medical call to a Holton apartment complex on Friday night. The child was reported to have difficulty breathing and was unresponsive. The child is considered to be in “critical condition” and was airlifted to a Kansas City Hospital.
The McKinney is currently being held for the following charges: aggravated battery, child abuse and endangering a child. The Holton Police Department assisted with the investigation.
McKinney had a detention hearing Monday and is still being held according to Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller. The State wants to try McKinney as an adult.
