Spring is here, and for one organization, that also means it’s “mural painting season.”
The “Topeka Mural Project” began working on this latest series of murals Saturday morning. They met in the “High Crest neighborhood” at the former “Avondale East Elementary School.”
Organizers say the mural is aimed to reduce crime and graffiti in the neighborhood.
“We are painting murals in neighborhoods that can be a little tough and for kids who live in neighborhoods like that, they really, I hope, learn that they can make their world a better place,” says Arts Connect Inc.’s Sarah Fizell. “It just takes a little bit of their time and a little help from other, they can really have some say in what goes on around them.”
