On Tuesday morning the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office has petitioned to oust Topeka City Councilman John M. Campos Jr. from his council position, Shawnee County DA Chief of Staff Lee McGowan confirmed to Kansas First News.
Campos is facing two charges according to documents on the Shawnee County District Attorney’s website.
The complaints were posted on Monday, April 21, 2014. The charges are making a false writing and interference with law enforcement. Campos is the 2nd district councilman. He replaced John Alcala who won a seat in the Kansas House of Representatives.
Campos recently came under fire by his council colleagues for his efforts to clean up a house in his home district in the Oakland Neighborhood.
A spokesman for the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office had no comment when contacted by Kansas First News on Tuesday morning.
Kansas First News also reached out to Campos for his comments, but have yet to receive a reply.
