A former republican presidential nominee returned home to Kansas. Senator Bob Dole stopped in Holton Tuesday and from the looks of it the 90-year-old hasn’t lost his spunk.
He cracked joke after joke, answered questions, and took pictures. The audience was filled with friends, veterans and Dole supporters.
U.S. Representative Lynn Jenkins says there is no better role model for Kansans than Dole.
“He served the people of Kansas well, he did it with honor and distinction, rose up in the ranks, became leader of the senate, ran for president, how many Kansans do that?”
The 90-year-old represented Kansas in congress from 1961 to 1996. He then left the senate to run against Democratic President Bill Clinton.
Dole also visited Lawrence Tuesday morning. About 350 people gathered at the Dole Institute of Politics on the KU campus to hear him speak.
Dole will be in Atchison and Leavenworth Wednesday.
