(NBC News) Another wave of tornados pushed across several states Monday night.
Dozens of twisters touched down from Louisiana to Tennessee, destroying hundreds of homes and killing 11 people. That brings the death toll to 28 people killed by the storm system since Sunday.
In Louisville, Mississippi the Winston County Hospital took a direct hit.
“We honestly felt God’s hand of protection around us,” one survivor said. “The clinic is destroyed, but we’re all safe and we were all praying the whole time.”
Prayers were also answered in nearby Tupelo, where several people were injured when a tornado ripped through town, but no one was killed.
“There’s a tremendous loss of residential and commercial property, but we’re very fortunate in the human factor of storms with this magnitude,” said Mayor Jason Shelton.
Forecasters are warning the worst may not be over. More storms are expected across the regional later Tuesday and into Wednesday.
