The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Topeka man this morning following a vehicle pursuit that ended in Shawnee County.  Forty one year old Joseph L. Swazey III of Topeka was taken into custody following the chase after the pickup he was driving was disabled by a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper’s vehicle.

Around 9 Tuesday morning Jackson County Deputies were dispatched to 505 2nd Street in the City of Whiting for a disturbance.  Swazey was alleged to have sliced the victim’s car tires and fled the scene with a knife.  A Jackson County Deputy observed the Chevy S-10 pickup Swazey was driving southbound on US Highway 75 near 266th Road.   The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver failed to yield to the deputy and a pursuit ensued.  The vehicle continued south into the City of Holton where the Holton Police Department assisted.  The pursuit continued southbound where the Potawatomi Tribal Police joined the pursuit.  Shawnee County authorities and the Kansas Highway Patrol were contacted.  Stop sticks were deployed once in Shawnee County by the Kansas Highway Patrol, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office and the Topeka Police Department.  The vehicle continued south on deflated tires and exited US 75 Hwy at the Hwy 24 interchange.  A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper’s vehicle then disabled the truck where it collided into a guard rail.  The suspect was arrested on the scene and no injuries were reported.

Swazey was wanted on outstanding Jackson County District Court warrants for ten counts of stalking.  Further charges and bond are pending at this time.
