Run for the Fallen will take place Saturday, May 17th at 9 a.m. at Riley’s Conference Center. This event is to honor and commemorate those who have sacrificed for our country.
Runners, walkers, strollers and pets are welcome to this untimed family friendly fun run. The course will wind through historic Main Post with turnaround points for two- and four-mile routes. The two-mile route will run through historic housing and turn back at the Old Trooper monument by Cavalry Parade Field. The four-mile route will continue to the Post Cemetery before turning back along Huebner Road.
Along the route, displays honoring fallen Fort Riley Soldiers will feature photos and biographies. The displays are just one way participants can honor the lives of the fallen. Attendees can also customize their running bibs with Soldiers’ names and decorations.
Runners are encouraged to celebrate the lives of those who have fallen and make connections with other attendees.
“It is a get-together to celebrate what these folks have done for their country and celebrate who they were,” Ken Roynon, sports program manager; Sports, Fitness and Aquatics; DFMWR, said. “I think it should help with the grieving process but in a very positive way.”
Free registration begins at 8 a.m. Opening remarks and the national anthem will be at 9 a.m. The 4-mile race will begin at 9:11 a.m. and the 2-mile race will begin at 9:20 a.m.
