World’s tallest water slide on hold

The opening of the world’s tallest slide at a Kansas City, Kansas water park has been delayed about two weeks to allow for testing.

The Verruckt initially was scheduled to start operating May 23 when the rest of the Schlitterbahn attractions open.

Verruckt, which means “insane,” was certified in April by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest. The slide is 168 feet 7 inches tall and sends riders on four-person rafts plummeting at 60 to 70 mph.

Park officials weren’t specific but they said the slide is being taken apart and then will be put back together.

That has some parents concerned about safety.

“Based upon their adjustments, I don’t think I’d let my kids on it now, says parent Cassandra Lewis.” “I’d rather they take their time and make sure it’s put together correctly and make sure it’s safe for the community.”

Park owners say they hope the ride will become a destination attraction.

Officials say the earliest the slide will open is June 5th.
