A rush hour accident Thursday morning caused a traffic tie-up on Interstate 70 east of downtown Topeka.
The accident was reported at about 7:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-70 just east of California Avenue. The three-vehicle accident occurred near a construction zone where the two lanes of Interstate traffic narrow to one lane through downtown Topeka.
A Topeka Police watch commander said one person had minor injuries. The Kansas Department of Transportation was helping police officers to detour rush hour traffic in the area. It’s the second morning in a row for a rush hour accident. Wednesday morning another accident involved two vehicles and had traffic backed up in the same area for nearly a mile.
The construction work began on Tuesday.
