Train kills pedestrian south of Portland, Maine


PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Amtrak officials confirm that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train about a mile south of Portland, Maine.

WGME-TV ( ) quotes Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods as saying the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday.

She described the deceased as a trespasser.

None of the 68 passengers aboard Downeaster train 648 when the accident occurred were injured, Woods said.

The train runs between Brunswick and Boston’s North Station.

The train was delayed about two hours before service resumed.

The crash is being investigated. Officials did not release the victim’s name.
