SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A social media expert who was the subject of a nationwide manhunt after authorities searched his San Francisco apartment has been charged with one count of possessing an illegal destructive device.
Ryan Kelly Chamberlain appeared in federal court on Tuesday in the same shirt and shorts he was arrested in a day earlier.
The 42-year-old Chamberlain was accompanied by a public defender but did not enter a plea.
Chamberlain was arrested on Monday in his car near Crissy Field, just south of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The FBI says authorities discovered materials at his home that could have caused great harm to the public. However, the agency has not specified what those materials were or what, if any, plans Chamberlain had for them.
