NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York City have announced two indictments charging 103 alleged gang members they say wreaked havoc over Manhattan public housing developments for years.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance calls Wednesday’s takedown the largest gang case in city history. He says the suspects were members of three Harlem street crews dubbed 3Stacks, Make it Happen Boys and Money Avenue.
Police Commissioner William Bratton says the feuds between the crews went back generations.
Authorities say the alleged gang members were responsible for two killings and 19 nonfatal shootings, among other crimes.
Police say the arrests stemmed from an investigation into the fatal 2011 shooting of a nationally ranked high school basketball player in an apartment building. Two men have been convicted and are serving prison terms for Tayshana Murphy’s slaying.
