Strong winds cause damage, outages in NE Kansas

Thursday morning thunderstorms brought strong winds to parts of NE Kansas and afterward causing trees and power lines to fall down resulting in damage to multiple homes and property.

Emergency responders were called to a home at 15th and SW Jewell on a tree falling into a garage and catching fire.

High winds have caused authorities to divert traffic through Silver Lake in NW Shawnee County.

A Kansas First News photographer says some power lines have fallen into some trees and caused Highway 24 to be shut down in an area about a block north of the high school.  Traffic in both directions is back open.

Trees are also reported down and blocking a two-block stretch from 31st to 33rd Street on SE Adams.  A fallen tree was also reported to have been blocking the northbound lane of SE 27th and Burlingame as of 10 Thursday morning.

The Shawnee County Emergency Management reports that the 3100 block of SE Adams is barricaded off and closed due to a damaged power pole following high winds.

Tree damage has been reported with two foot diameter trees and power lines snapped in Morris, Dickinson and Geary Counties.

Marion emergency manager has reported that an oil well was struck by lightning and is still on fire.

Strorm Track Weather is reported of winds up to 50-80 mph.
