TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) Imagine spending most of your free time repairing American flags.
Donna Butts has been busy maintaining the 51 flags of the Corridor of Flags next to the All Veterans Memorial at Great Overland Station.
During the past three years Donna has worked on more than 300 flags and now she is working on a giant memorial flag for Saturday’s observance of Flag Day.
“She is very, very genuine,” said Great Overland Station Director Bette Allen. “She’s doing it because she wants to do it, she has a desire to see the flag look nice and she has the desire to help people and also we’ve become friends.”
Donna doesn’t just mend tattered flags, she also reinforces the seams of newly-purchased American flags to help them last longer.
