MANHATTAN, Kan. – Seniors Ross Kivett and RJ Santigate, who were K-State’s top hitters in 2014, were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Midwest All-Region Second Team, the ABCA announced. It is Kivett’s second career all-region honor while the accolade is Santigate’s first of his career.
Kivett, who was selected as a second baseman to the all-region team, was among the Big 12 Conference’s top offensive producers this past season, finishing second in OBP (.443), tied for second in stolen bases (21), third in runs scored (49), sixth in batting average (.333), and ninth in slugging percentage (.462). The Broadview Heights, Ohio native was the only player in the Big 12 to finish in the conference’s top 10 in batting average, OBP, and slugging percentage.
Kivett added 13 doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 33 RBI to go with his .333 batting average, the second best mark on K-State. The infielder and outfielder started all 55 games for the Wildcats in 2014, which was the second straight season he had started in every K-State contest.
Kivett was recently drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft, one of three Wildcats selected in the draft.
Santigate was K-State’s top hitter this past season in terms of batting average, leading the team with a .335 clip while also tallying 27 RBI and 34 runs scored. The Las Vegas, Nevada product was among the top five in the Big 12 in OBP (4th, .415) and batting average (fifth) while also finishing in the top 10 in stolen bases (T-8th, 15). The marks in OBP, batting average, and stolen bases were all career-highs.
The third baseman finished his K-State career with a .303 batting average, 16 doubles, 73 RBI, and 28 stolen bases in 163 games. Over the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Santigate started in 113 of K-State’s 119 games, and hit .324 or higher in both seasons.
In addition to the all-region honor, Kivett was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Team this season. Both Kivett and Santigate were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
