TPD: Deputy chief to take over as interim chief

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) The deputy chief of the Topeka Police Department will take over as interim chief.

Deputy Chief Tony Kirk will serve as interim police chief beginning August 1, 2014.

Kirk was promoted to deputy chief in 2012 and has been in Kansas Law Enforcement for 28 years.

Kirk is also a 21 year veteran of the U.S. military, serving 8 years in the marine corps, is currently serving as a fire direction control section chief with the Kansas Army National Guard for the past 13 years.

In March, President Barack Obama nominated current Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller to serve as U.S. Marshal for Kansas.
