TOPEKA – Washburn Rural senior quarterback Blake Peterson will play football at Texas State University.
The multi-sport standout spent the early part of summer narrowing down his college choices while working out at several football camps across the country. He said that Texas State, who plays in the Sun Belt Conference, is a perfect fit.
“This is only their third year in major division one so they’re still trying to learn, get things going, they’re a great program,” Peterson said.
Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione offered Peterson a scholarship last week while Blake and his family went to a football camp in Lancaster, Tex.
“Both of my parents went to Pitt State and were there when Coach Fran was coaching at Pitt State so that was the connection there,” Peterson said.
In addition to football, Peterson played baseball and basketball at Washburn Rural and was a starter on each team.
“Focus on football now,” Peterson said. “I don’t have to worry about recruiting anymore so I can just focus on this season and trying to win some games.”
