MANHATTAN, Kan. (KSNT) The Kansas Department of Agriculture has packed up and headed west. The department transferred from their location in Topeka to Manhattan.

They opened for business in the new facility earlier this week.

The move became necessary when the lease expired on their building in Topeka.

The heads of the Agriculture Department say their new location on K-State’s campus provides more opportunities to serve farmers and Kansans as well as collaborate with the K-State College of Agriculture.

“Manhattan is kind of becoming the center of the state for agriculture,” says Jake Worcester, assistant secretary for KDA. “”So it made since for us to be here and we’re still close enough to get over to Topeka when we need to.”

Governor Sam Brownback toured the new facilities today, and met with members of the state agriculture department.
