TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) If you haven’t received your 2014 Kansas Income Tax refund check yet, you’re not getting it for another couple of weeks.
The Department of Revenue says some 20,000 refund checks have not gone out yet and they won’t until after July 1, 2014.
The state is on hold as it tries to settle accounts ahead of the start of the new fiscal year in July.
For some who say they filed their taxes on time, the delay is unacceptable.
“How do we, in the age of computers, shut down for two weeks, hold peoples money up, and not give them the refund that they’re due,” says Verna Riggins.
“If you file electronically, normally you have your check within seven days,” says Director of Taxation Steve Stotts. “If you file on paper, it’s at least a month.”
The state says as long as your return was filed on time any refund will be issued after July first with interest paid on the delay.
