Sunflower Soccer complex breaks ground for upgrades

TOPEKA, Kan. – It’s a goal!  After many years of planning, Sunflower Soccer Association is breaking ground on a facility improvement project at 4829 NW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66618.  The project includes updating the entry, redoing the parking lot, adding two soccer fields and building a restroom/concession/office building.  The project was designed by Treanor Architects and the contractor is Mohan Construction.

This project is in cooperation with the city of Topeka and is being funded through guest tax collections.  Sunflower Soccer contributes to the guest tax through its biannual tournament, the Governor’s Cup, hosting other tournaments including the Kansas Youth Soccer Girls’ State Cup and new in September, 2014, the Capital Cup.  The Topeka Lodging Association and Visit Topeka, Inc. assisted in lobbying for the improvements as a benefit to the sport tourism of Topeka.
