Topeka man celebrates 106th birthday

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) A long time resident of Aldersgate Village in Topeka celebrated a milestone Wednesday.

A birthday celebration was held for Bill Calwell. Friends, family and staff gathered for his 106th birthday.

Bill and his wife Doris were married 76 years when she passed away at 100 years old.

Longevity is definitely in Bill’s genes, both his parents lived to be 100.

Bill served as a railroad executive with the Rock Island Line for 47 years before retiring.

Bill was born in 1908 in Wemore, Kansas and grew up wanting to be a champion golfer.

By age 50 he’d won many amateur championships.

In his long life he has traveled to 39 different countries.
