Around 12:27 Thursday morning, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in-progress call at a residence in the 5300 block NE Kincaid Rd.
Upon arriving at the residence, Sheriff Deputies observed two adult male subjects outside the residence carrying items believed to have just been stolen from the home. One of the suspects surrendered and was immediately taken into custody, a second suspect fled on foot.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects gained entry through an exterior glass door in the back of the residence that had been broken out. Officers searched the residence and no other suspects were located inside. There were no residents inside the home at the time of the incident.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers located the second suspect near the residence and took him into custody.
Both suspects, Zane W. Hendrix, age 21, of Topeka and Zachary W. Payne, age 24, of Topeka were taken to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning then transported to the Shawnee County Jail and booked on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and Interference with law enforcement.
The Kansas Highway Patrol Helicopter Unit and a Topeka Police Dept. officer and K-9 assisted deputies in the search and apprehension of the two suspects.
