TOPEKA, Kan. — Washburn University Athletics is proud to announce starting this fall a new fully-programmable 19 by 40 feet wide HD display video board will be installed in the south end of Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl replacing the current one which has been installed since the 1996 football season.

Overall the size of the board will be 30 by 40 feet in size with five fixed advertising panels. Construction has already started on the video board at Daktronics headquarters in Brookings, S.D. and is scheduled to be installed for the Ichabod football team’s season opener on Sept. 4 when they will face Lindenwood.

“We are extremely excited to add a new scoreboard to our on-going renovations of Yager Stadium,” Washburn Athletic Director Loren Ferré said. “To add a video board will certainly enhance the gameday experience for our fans and student athletes. To work with a quality company like Daktronics we know we will have state-of-the-art equipment and we are excited about all the new opportunities this board will provide. We would like to thank our advertisers who stepped up and made this happen.”

The 15mm Daktronics system will also have built in a new audio system which will replace the current speakers which are attached to the Bianchinno Pavilion. The video board will be able to provide in-game live stats as well as video replay of sporting events during games.

“Right now we have outstanding facilities and the ability to make an improvement with the scoreboard and to make it part of the entertainment of the game is very big,” Ichabod head football coach Craig Schurig said. “It will add another dimension to the fan atmosphere with music, video and everything. With the conference that we’re in, you have to keep pace. We’re already in the higher echelon of Division II, but we want to have facilities that will rival the Division I schools, and this will put us there.”

Washburn partnered with Daktronics for the video board and scorers table in Lee Arena as well.

“I think the new video board is a fantastic addition to Yager Stadium,” Ichabod head soccer coach Tim Collins said. “It enhances the experience for fans, shows the commitment to excellence the athletics department holds dear and will allow our student athletes to further their own playing experience at Washburn.”
