The National Weather Service released information about a brief tornado in Topeka Sunday night.
According to a report released Monday morning, the tornado touched down around 9:20 p.m. Sunday near Lower Silver Lake Rd. and skipped along a path around 1.6 miles long damaging tree limbs. It ended near Rochester Cemetery. The tornado measured at a maximum of 30 yard across and was classified an EF-0 with peak winds at 65 mph.
During Monday’s Shawnee County Commission meeting, Shawnee County Emergency Management Director David Sterbenz said his department and dispatchers had been monitoring the storm and didn’t see anything that would cause them to activate the sirens.
