Friends raising funds for shooting victim

BP Shooting-Standoff

Topeka, Kan (KSNT) – Monday’s B-P gas station shooting left Bryon Snyder in serious condition at a local Topeka hospital.

Now family and friends have set up an online fundraiser to help pay some of Snyder’s medical bills.

According to police, Snyder and two other men, were shielding a woman Monday who was trying to hide from the alleged shooter – 52 year old XXXX inside the BP gas station near SW Huntoon Road and SW Washburn Road just after 1215 p.m..

“I can’t say I would do that”, says family friend Anje Kearney.

Kearney is spreading the word about the fundraiser. She says the community should come together, after all, he was trying to protect a complete stranger.

“Obviously, with the family putting out it means that there’s going to be some financial issues,” says Kearney “because of him being in the hospital.”

The fundraiser started Tuesday morning and by afternoon 55 people had contributed more than $2,000.

Says Kearney, “and he’s losing work, he’s not going to be able to work for a while, so we need to make sure that his family is taken care of.”

Snyder is married with two daughters and a son. Kearney says what he did deserves our respect.
