Fire damages Topeka home

Topeka Fire

TOPEKA, Kan. – The City of Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1830 NW Tyler Street shortly after 2:44 A.M.   Residents of the house awoke to heavy smoke and fire in the basement of the house.  They were able to notify all the sleeping residents of the home. The residents escaped the house prior to the arrival of the fire department.

Upon arrival fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the basement of the house.  Both primary and secondary searches of the house found no one remaining inside.  The fire was quickly extinguished.

The City of Topeka Fire Department Investigations Unit responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation, and found the cause of the fire was associated with the burning a candle.

The total estimated damages are $25,000.00 with $20,000.00 in damage to the structure and $5,000.00 damage to contents.
