TFD release cause of death in east Topeka fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) At 7:41 Wednesday morning the Topeka Fire Department responded to a report of a mobile home fire with someone trapped inside. First crews to arrive on scene found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure at 3637 SE 6th Street. That address corresponds to the England Mobile Home Estates just west of SE 6th and Croco.

Rescue crews initiated a primary search of the dwelling and were able to remove one fire victim. Fire crews initiated first aid efforts but the victim was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Topeka Fire Department sources have identified the victim as Margorie Shaffer. Shaffer died as a result of smoke inhalation associated with the fire.

The blaze was quickly extinguished and an Investigator was requested to respond to the scene.  Investigation revealed the origin of the fire to be in the rear half of the mobile home.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
