Mining truck painted pink for breast cancer awareness

HIBBING, Minn. (AP) — A St. Louis County mine is unveiling a giant pink truck in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness.

Hibbing Taconite mine will present its hot pink truck in a Saturday parade of 60 miners. The 44-foot painted truck bed weighs almost 42 tons and is part of a 240-ton truck that will haul iron ore.

The mine will also hold a July 17 ceremony where the pink bed will be added to the truck. The Fairview Range Medical Center clinic will provide free breast and skin cancer screenings for the public from 5-7 p.m.

The unusual truck project cost $200,000 and used 30 gallons of pink paint. Minnesota and Wyoming police escorted the truck box across the country this week.
