WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio (AP) — An Iraq War veteran in Ohio is facing a $150 fine or worse after getting a citation for his pet ducks, which he says are therapeutic.
Darin Welker of West Lafayette says he was cited with a minor misdemeanor June 23 for having 14 ducks.
The village about 80 miles east of Columbus banned residents from keeping fowl and other farm animals in 2010.
The Coshocton Tribune reports (http://ohne.ws/1zUGruN) that Welker has a court hearing Wednesday and faces a fine of $150.
But Welker is more worried about not being allowed to keep the ducks.
He says the birds help him with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and keep him more active. He suffered a major back injury in Iraq.
West Lafayette Mayor Jack Patterson declined to comment.
