MID-PLAINS LEAGUE FINAL SCORE:
Junction City Brigade 13
Topeka Golden Giants 9
The Brigade had an uphill battle in order to win the Mid-Plains League Summer Classic on Sunday. First, Junction City had to beat the Topeka Senators in an elimination game. They won 4-2. Next, they were in the championship against the Topeka Golden Giants, the league’s regular-season champions. Since the tournament was a double-elimination format, the Brigade would have to win twice in order to claim the title. They won the first game 5-3 in 8 innings, to force a winner-take-all rematch. The Brigade scored early and often in the second game, and held on for a 13-9 win. They capture the Cowdin Cup (named after former Rossville coach Brett Cowdin who passed away earlier this year).
